The first sign that you need help is an alarm buzzer and/or an alarm light going off. This alarm is meant to signal you that something is not right in your station. Generally, there are a few reasons alarms go off. Firstly, the pump itself has gone bad. Secondly, the control floats are not working as they should. Thirdly, there is an electrical issue that stops the pump from running.

There are many types of pumps that your property might have, depending on the systems you are using. Each has its own way of showing that it is installed.

A grinder pump sits in an underground basing, usually with a green lid measuring anywhere from 24 inches to 36 inches in diameter. These stations are usually within fifty feet of the house. A dosing pump tank also normally has a green lid, either steel or aluminum. It is likely a rectangle shape approximately 2ft wide by 3ft long. An ejector pump generally has a black lid and is located in a basement utility room. It appears like a sump pump, but its function is to pump sewage.
